Frank Blasts Nazi Comparisons From LaRouche Backers

Updated 12:15 p.m. 8/20/09
By Garance Franke-Ruta and Sarah Lovenheim
Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) was greeted with shouts and boos at a town hall meeting on health care at a senior center in Dartmouth, Mass., Tuesday night, an event that was targeted by supporters of perennial independent political candidate Lyndon LaRouche. But the combative House Financial Services Committee chairman met fire with fire.

"On what planet do you spend most of your time?" Frank retorted when Rachel Brown of the LaRouche Youth Movement compared President Obama's push for health-care reform to the policies of Nazi Germany while holding up a pamphlet depicting the president with a Hitler mustache, a LaRouche anti-Obama health reform campaign image.

"This policy is actually already on its way out. It already has been defeated by LaRouche. My question to you is, why do you continue to support a Nazi policy?" Brown had asked.

"You stand there with a picture of the president defaced to look like Hitler and compare the effort to increase health care to the Nazis," Frank, who is Jewish, blasted back.

"Trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table," he continued. "... I have no interest in doing it."

Video of Frank's remarks quickly went viral online and was shown repeatedly on cable television.

Protesters had greeted attendees of the meeting, organized by the Democratic Town Committee of Dartmouth, by distributing pamphlets criticizing Frank's push for reform and Obama's plan. Images of Obama as Hitler were visible on several of the pamphlets seen in videos of the event. Some protesters held posters that read, "It's the economy stupid, stop the spending," the Associated Press reported.

Ray Medeiros, chairman of the Dartmouth Democratic Party, said the pamphlets came from LaRouche supporters, and that the woman who ticked off Frank was one of about 20 who came to the meeting. Brock Cordiero, the regional chair of the Massachusetts GOP, said Brown was passing out pamphlets from a table with a LaRouche PAC banner on it before the town hall meeting and that he and Medeiros spent a fair bit of time during the meeting trying to contain the disruptions the LaRouche supporters were causing. "They were there to cause problems," he said.

Cordiero, concerned attendees might mistake LaRouche supporters for Republicans, said he went out of his way at the meeting to repudiate the Hitler-Obama imagery in remarks to Frank. "I saw media reports there was Republican booing and jeering," said Cordiero Thursday. "That's not the case."

To those who interrupted Frank's remarks during the event, the congressman from Massachusetts jabbed, "Disruption never helps your cause. ... It just looks like you're afraid to have rational discussion."

Medeiros said that he had encouraged protesters, mostly young people, to leave but that they wouldn't budge. "This is a Democratic Town Committee meeting. We called the meeting to order!" he said he eventually yelled after one refused to clear floor space.

LaRouche PAC has been waging an intensifying campaign against the Obama and congressional health reform proposals since the president's nationally televised news conference of July 22, when he called for an "an independent group of doctors and medical experts who are empowered to eliminate waste and inefficiency in Medicare." The group has interpreted that statement as ordering euthanasia.

"LaRouche PAC members are giving leadership to these town hall meetings all around the country so we are being at any one that we possibly can," LaRouche PAC spokeswoman Nancy Spannaus told The Post of the group's presence in Massachusetts.

"Our Obama mustache poster....It symbolizes the fact that the president is attempting to implement a Hitler health care policy," she said. "At any town hall, you'll know LaRouche people are there if you just look for the mustache."

I wish more politicians had the stones to stand up to these knuckle draggers at these town hall meetings and call out their irrational, incoherent blathering. People like that woman contribute nothing to either side of the health care/health insurance reform debate by using that kind of baseless invective. Go Congressman Frank!

CNN did not just report on this, as quoted here, but ran a large portion of it live, which I watched.

It was a great example of a good leader handling a situation well and responding effectively both to questions and to attempted shoutdowns, calling him a liar, and other deliberately disruptive tactics. My favorite part was when he said why can't we have a rational discussion, and people shouted "we're angry!" and he said, what makes you think rationality and anger are opposites?

Another good part was when he asked the louder part of the crowd to name one tax the Obama administration has raised, since there aren't any. After a lot of confused mumbling and shouting, they came up with a state tax in Massachusetts. He told them he had assumed they knew the difference between the federal government and the state government of Massachusetts, but in case they didn't, those are actually two different things.

I also liked the fact that a number of those present were applauding the Congressman as he stood up for himself and the actual purpose of the town hall. That should have been reported here. But I think he would have done just as well on his own because he is comfortable in his own skin, knows the facts cold, and stands up for himself.

He also doesn't worry too much about winning over people who aren't really there to be persuaded or engage in discussion. As long as he listened, replied to what they said, and repeatedly called out disruptive behavior for what it was (which he did clearly and calmly), he did what he needed to do. I think he could have kept going all night.

Freshman Congressmen who may be facing their own town hall worries should get the entire session and watch it. Kudos to Congressman Frank.

There are times when Rep. Frank overreacts to opposing views. But this young woman got exactly what she deserved - scorn and derision. There are legitimate concerns about the health care plan that can be asked respectfully. But bringing up the Nazi specter and comparing our president to Hitler shows ignorance and should be treated with total disrespect. Perhaps listeners of FOX News and right wing talk radio can be deprogrammed so they're capable of coming up with an original thought and not just spew out what they've been told to say. Good for you, Rep. Frank. Too bad other representatives don't have your courage and forthrightness.

It is impossible to have a rational conversation with someone who is lying. Barney Frank is either stupid or lying (maybe both) when he makes a statement like "Congress would not tug on the pockets of average taxpayers."
The town hall meetings were called by the democrats because they thought the stupid public would swallow their platitudes of class warfare and sticking it to the rich while guaranteeing health coverage for everyone without a need for increased taxes. The public has fortunately seen through the bravo-sierra and realize if the government gets involved it will be super expensive and inefficient.
The town hall participants have had enough of the democratic spend us into the dark ages because they realize congress and the Obama administration are teenagers with a credit card and we are the ones that will pay the bill.

Mr. Frank, you are a gentleman and a scholar. It's about time a member of Congress weilded a pair and pushed back.

I can't stand, and I do not think the majority of Americans will be able to stand, this parade of idiocy much longer.

These people do not represent America and I'm sick of their ill informed hot air being treated as if it were pure gold.

Barney Franks is an elitist that only cares about himself and the money he can squeeze out of the system. Mass. is broke. Their health care system, a few months ago praised by Obama, broke. There are massive amounts of losses of government union benefits coming due that are going to hit the taxpayers. Soon all that will be left in Mass. will be people sitting around waiting for their next government handout.

Hopefully in 2010 there will be enough people with common sense to vote this tird out of office along with the other Spendocrats Pelosi, Dodds, Reid et al.

How I love the incredible richness of the irony that surrounds Barney Frank.

I guess you forgot to mention the Frank supporter who got up and testified that, as a physician, health care reform was very important. Someone checks, and another Obama delegate caught lying about being a doctor. Barney Frank also called his constituents "a piece of furniture". Every time there is tape of Barney Frank talking to people this way, Democrats lose 10 Blue Dog seats. They don't have control of congress without the Blue Dogs. By next month, Barney Frank's condescending dismissal of US citizens will help him win reelection, and help republicans take control of the House of representatives and pick up 6 senate seats in 2010.

Thank you Barney Frank. Keep talking. Cumudgeony old white liberals from the northeast are kryptonite to voters in the rest of the country.

Rational discussion is a must in any democracy but loud-mouthed lying has no place in such an important debate.

I, for one, did not see the congressman get angry. Perhaps another version of the video shows a different angle?

Nor did I see depictions of W as tasteless abd baselss as the depictions of President Obama have been. It is time that some one has the huevos to call it as it is. This idiot of a woman seems to come out with a playbook and script tactic. I’ll bet anything that the scumbag of the Bush cartel, Karl Rove, wrote that playbook. The tactic shows his style that took the GOP to be a bunch of losers that in eight years have almost brought the country to its knees. We now have a real President who is trying to fix what he inherited. Health care in the US of A is rated as 37th in the world on a cost benefit ratio. In other words, there are 3rd world nations doing better. But, we have (plated) people out in the crowd who think its ok. Incidentally, the CEO of one of the biggest American health insurance companies makes 140 MILLION dollars a year. Who gave up coverage so that he "earned" that?

But for anyone who is uncertain and open to facts, the German health care program was instituted by the very conservative aristocrat Otto Bismarck long before anyone had heard of Hitler and the Nazis.

Those idiots come to these Clown hall meetings more to be seen than heard, and think creating chaos makes them great Americans.
The most violent opposition isn't directed at his ideas about health care reform. It is directed at him. It is about him. They couldn't make enough of a majority to beat the Harvard-educated black guy out of the White House, so they will beat him on an issue where they see him as being most vulnerable.
Don't ever ask Barney Frank a question if you don't want to know exactly how he feels about something. Frank is asked by a woman waving an Obama as Hitler picture at a town hall meeting why he is supporting his "Nazi policy" on health care. Frank didn't mince any words in responding.
Frank: When you ask me that question I'm going to revert to my ethnic heritage and answer your question with a question. On what planet do you spend most of your time?
You want me to answer the question? Yes. As you stand there with a picture of the President defaced to look like Hitler and compare the effort to increase health care to the Nazis, my answer to you is as I said before, it is a tribute to the First Amendment that this kind of vile, contemptible nonsense is so freely propagated. Ma'am, trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table. I have no interest in doing it.
This ding bat look the fool she is. Chances are she will not have her 15 minutes of fame and a free dinner and appearance on FOX news like the others. It’s about time the Democrats take of the gloves and seriously fight back. Obama, needs to get mad and realize the Republicans are not going come on board not matter what he does. So screw them.

Interesting that these "conservatives" (they aren't even true conservatives) would stoop to spreading lies, yelling like 2 year olds and bringing guns to intimidate people at town halls in order to deny people health care.

And the claim liberalism is a social disease. Some of these people should be incarcerated.

Good for Frank.

It needed to be done and it needs to be done until the facts and potentials can be considered calmly and with what will happen if nothing is done.

As a senior citizen who is a Republican, we are about good governance. It comes into play because big business let the nation down. Public Option is a very good thing. Why not if it's a choice?

The problem was not caused by Obama. He's set a goal. The issue can be fixed by Congress, if they stop trying to divide and conquer.

The only thing that will stop democrasy is to prevent good discussion and Congress to work because of a bias.

The constitution doesn't mention fire districts, but all property owners are required to pay a tax for the benefit of a fire fighting service, which benefits all property owners. I see no reason health care can't be treated the same way, if we so choose. When a decent person sees a sudden emergency that they are situated to assist in, whether it be a home on fire in a house with elders and children, or a person suddenly stricken by an accident or heart attack, he does what he can to help. Why then, should we not assist ourselves and each other in this way? When it comes to the 'property' of the human body, we are all property owners. Does not our shared interest in being given health care when needed, combined with the moral imperative to assist in an emergency, create a moral imperative to provide universal health care? The citizens of all other economically developed democracies have concluded that it does, and almost all of them have concluded that the government which serves and taxes all citizens is the best agency for providing this service.

I agree, steelsit2

It is little difference in taxes for fire or taxes for good healtcare, especially if any increas in taxes is substantially less than what premium will be if not checked.

US is listed 37th in healthcare. IF the other nations ahead of us can be used as a guide, they can also show us where the USA can improve upon their mistakes. (A smart person learns from their mistakes; a wise person learns from the mistakes of others). But, where they have it right, we need to learn from it.

I do see the crisis that would be caused just to change it over, but it pales in comparison to leaving it as it is.

In fact, having the public option as a choice, along with Insurance carriers, makes it as a potential win-win.

It can still be tweaked along the way.

If they have legitimate issues concerning the health care proposal, then ask a question in a respectful manner. Shouting just shows you are there to be disruptive, not productive. Any comparison to anything this country does to what happened in Nazi Germany is just a sad commentary on how low some people have sunk.

Barney Frank was right.

Obama isn't a nazi. The correct comparison is with Mussolini, not Hitler. Hitler was a racist, Mussolini believed race was irrelevant as long as everyone acted the same and followed the same leader into an ever more enormous socialist future.

With state ownership of 2/3 of American car companies, a lot of banks, and an attempt to take over health care, Obama is SOME sort of socialist. The proper question is which kind, not whether he is one.

It is truly unfortunate that so many people go to government schools and get their brains so messed up they can't even think straight about what words mean - fascism, socialism, national socialism and communism (which is international socialism) are not just pejoratives, they are legitimate words describing means of political organization. It is important to be able to identify which one our leaders are adhering to since there is a lot of bagage that necessarily comes along with the system they want to impose.

No sane person would want the baggage that comes along with fascism, communism, etc. which is why there is so much inflammatory rhetoric from the left - they want to keep the debate emotional so the rest of the country doesn't realize there is substance to it.

The hard core right likes to convince themselves and others that everyone else is on the extreme left - most people are right where they should be - thoroughly disgusted with extremists - the democratic party is representatives of centrist, liberal and conservative ideologies - which hard core right wing republicans would have voters believe is a weakness rather than an example of true democracy. There are no pink dogs in the republican party - just a bunch of "deep" red dogs that have a nasty bite and are dangerous in packs. There are a lot of pink dogs out there - and they all support President Obama as will the blue dogs.

The really sad part about all of this is the attention being paid to these idiots, these morans disrupting meetings with shouting and shoving.

Its amazing that such obvious loonies are given any TV time at all. It only serves to encourage them.

That the things these idiots say are then given support by republican senators and congressmen is unforgivable. You'd think that a party that had dragged the nation through the dirt for the past 8 years might feel some need to help repair some of the damage. Not these guys.

We have to stop pretending that its a matter of fairness to air all sides in an argument. It's a matter of fairness to air all rational sides of a discussion. There is absolutely NO need to give equal time to a bunch of loudmouthed, ignorant kooks.

Fact is, he has shown weakness to the enemy, lack of leadership to the county and lack of a core to hold to a position in the face of a 5 MPH gust in his face from any detractor or critic..he has the back bone of jelly fish that just happens to get an A in reading teleprompters..tood bad he never really held a job, then you could see what he had accomplished besides bankrupting the country for the people that dont have any vested interest in the country cause most of his supporters never paid more the $400 in taxes in their life.. anyone that thinks obama is the chosen one, would follow bart simpson if they thought they could get a rebate check..poor sick lil dumb americans they are

There is no arguing with irrationality. Frank said exactly what is true. He would have had as much chance of a rational discussion with a dining room table as with that woman.

There are reasonable people with various shades of opinion on health care reform. Those people should be allowed to speak and ask questions. Frank is right. We should NOT cede the field to those who carry signs saying Obama is a Nazi and especially to those who carry guns to public rallies. This GOP-inspired nasty has gone too far.

THE NAZIS HAD NATIONALIZED HEALTH CARE

http://www.thefreemanonline.org/columns/national-health-care-medicine-in-germany-1918-1945/

Frank shows a arrogant and frightening disregard for his duty as a REPRESENTATIVE of the people.

It has been proposed that Hitler used mass hypnotism to sway the masses not with logic but with raw emotion. See:

http://www.pennypresslv.com/Obama%27s_Use_of_Hidden_Hypnosis_techniques_in_His_Speeches.pdf

Frank responds to criticism with anger and emotional histrionics and absolutely ZERO facts to support his position. Had Frank responded eloquently it would have painted him in a better light. But instead he sounded like the whiny clown.

People wake up. You have been hypnotized. Remember that masses of the most advanced society in the world, Germany, stood in large chanting and utterly spellbound by their charismatic leader. Sound familiar? WAKE UP NOW!!! Wake up before such comparisons become a reality. The only thing protecting us, the right to be heard and represented, has been crushed under Barney's ass-clown boot heel.

I mean, the article said LaRouche was a Marxist, but I can't figure out if they mean Karl, or Harpo...

I can't agree with LaRouche, I don't think Levi Strauss had an evil bone in his body...just made pants, and stuff.

I voted for Obama, I think we've got one of the sharpest people we could possibly have gotten out of the '08 lineup, if LaRouche really thinks he has Presidential-grade 'game', then why's he chewing on Obama's pants leg instead of cobbling together his own campaign? I think it's sour grapes, personally. Barack won by a LANDSLIDE. WOOOOOOSH! All gone! When was the last time LaRouche ever won a landslide? When he bought that hillside property and then it rained? C'mon.

Most to all new age occult channelers and their channeling spirits exalt Obama. German Nazism was an occult movement; most historians agree (unless they are in the occult themselves). One woman who channels several spirits, some that praise Obama, also channels a spirit named Kuthumi. Kuthumi or Koot-Hoomi was the same spirit that Madame Blavatsky channeled in the 1800s. Many new age channelers today channel Kuthumi. Blavatsky was responsible for starting theosophy and making the swastika the occult symbol of nazi Germany as well as other occult influences, most notably the concept of the Aryan race which was NOT originally focused on caucasion blue-eyed s. According to many theosophists, an extension of the 3rd reich is to commense in the USA. The Bible makes it clear that channeling (spiritism) is very dangerous since the spirits, if not faked, are evil spirits (read Deut 18). Hence, their support for Obama, as well as his socialism policies, suggests something terrible about Obama and socialism.

The real Hitler "health" policy called for killing people who were a drain on public resources. That would include the elderly unable to feed or clothe themselves, bathe, or otherwise handle the tasks of daily living, the developmentally disabled, and the mentally ill. Also included were homosexuals and Jews. A little common sense being injected into health-care decision making is a long, long distance away from deliberately killing people. But the distinction is lost on people who are easily mislead and ready to fight on short notice for a cause they don't understand is about maintaining, or even increasing, health insurance company profits.

The mind is a dangerous thing in the hands of a human. We imagine that we know what we are thinking about. We're destroying nature which in effect is equivalent to committing suicide in slow motion. We talk but say nothing - we think but know nothing. Each day we learn what we don't know. Other non-human life on earth who live within the rules and boundaries of nature are instinctively much more intelligent. While all humans are thoughtless and clueless. How else can you rationalize what the world is that mankind has created? How utterly irrelevant it is to be a liberal or conservative when a hundred thousand children die each day and we enumerate the species that become extinct and brag about creating life in a test tube. These ranters will tell one lie, then when they get shot down they just tell another.

Case in point: They said physicist Stephen Hawkins would be dead now if he were on Britain's NHS. Dr. Hawkins, a British citizen, responded that the NHS is what has kept him alive (Lou Gehrig's disease).

So they told another lie--they accused him of lying because the NHS was not in existence when he was born in 1942.

Duh! He wasn't BORN sick! the NHS was instituted in 1948--
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Health_Service ).

He started developing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease) in 1963-1964. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Hawking .

By the time he needed it, the NHS was there for him.

Any apologies for the misinformation? NO! On to the next lie.

You only resort to this Nazi stuff when you've got nothing else. Maybe no facts to support your argument, or maybe just nothing between your ears.

Getting Rid of AKA Obama

Many are interested stopping AKA Obama's war against America by indicting him through forming Citizen Grand Juries.

That is worthy and obtainable goal. However, there are many twists and turns to this issue. There have been mistakes made in researching the charges against him by certain "eligibility" attorneys. There have been mistakes made in the way Citizen Grand Juries have been formed.

Having heartfelt efforts result in failure because of technicalities is disheartening.

Over the past months I have made my mistakes along with other sincerely motivated people.

I recently updated and revised my hugely popular "OMG" article that has been reposted on more than 100 web sites and published by Intellectual Conservative.

The full spectrum of evidence that can be used by Citizen Grand Juries to get rid of AKA Obama is contained in the 6816 carefully researched words.

Instructions on how to successfully convene Citizens Grand Juries are also included.

“For nothing is hid that shall not be made manifest, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come to light.” Luke 8:17

I feel that asking questions like "why do you continue to support a Nazi policy?" and putting Hitler mustaches on pictures of any American president is in itself Un-American and is a threat to Democracy. By this I mean instead of hearing answers to legitimate questions like: How do we pay for this? What will be covered? What won't be covered? Why should my tax money pay for someone's triple bypass heart surgery that spent a lifetime smoking, drinking, getting fat and won't follow basic lifestyle changes after the operation? Instead dialogue on the complex question of what kind of health care do we want for America is ended. The media picks up the "Nazi" story and Barney Franks response and that is all we get. A Jerry Springer Show democracy. Sure it sells the news. It's easily digestible emotional information designed for an emotional response. But lets get back to the issue. What I would really like to see is a written "Cliff Notes" official version released by government. Something like a comprehensive website that isn't dumbed down to the ninth grade level but still understandable. At least this way we would know what is being looked at and vigorously debated rather then being told by others what is in this health care bill.

For those of you keep asking why is it okay for the left to compare Bush with Hilter for the Iraq War, but when fringe right compare Obama's Health Care to the Nazi and Hilter is not okay? Well here are the reasons:

1. Obama's Health care is trying to save lifes of the American people with the health care program. Bush's Iraq War is and has already killed many lifes of the Americans.

2. Obama's Health care will ultimately save American money by reducing their money they had to spend on the uncontrollable escalating increase of health care insurance money. Bush's Iraq War is pure spending of the American tax dollar with no beneficial payback to the American whatsoever.

3. Obama is trying to be up front with the health care policies by bringing all the issues and discuss them with the American people. Bush lied about the Iraq situation and the non-existent weapons of mass destruction to the American people.

And to those who keep saying that we did not start the Iraq War and that we had to fight the terrorists, let me make it clear; Iraq War IS NOT the same as Afghan War. There are no evidences or links between 9/11 and Iraq. If anything, Al Qaeda terrorists and Saddam actually dislike and cannot tolerate each other. The war in Iraq caused thousands of American lifes and even more innocent Iraqi civilian lifes on top of the billions of wasted American tax dollars.

So, do you still feel these comparison is unfair?

Posted by: makelvin | August 20, 2009 8:44 AM | Report abuse

I forgot to mention in my earlier post about Bush's policy to wire-tap the American people's phone conversation without their consent or knowledge. Bush had even hid the wire-tapping policy from the Congress. Does this reminds anyone of the Nazi party's practice.

So the comparison of Bush's administration with the Nazi was not unjust whereas comparing Obama's health care policy to the Nazi is like comparing mother Teresa to Adolf Hilter; it makes no sense.

When former President G.W. Bush was in office, I personally attended (or tried to attend) two of his appearances in Tennessee. My fellow citizens and I were herded behind a row of bushes at some distance from the venue, and kept there by police officers whose salaries we were paying. A friend of mine was arrested merely for trying to cross the street to approach more closely.

Because I was offended by the very presence of Bush in the Oval Office, I tried to keep well informed about his appearances everywhere during his tenure. To my knowledge, there were never any instances of Bush being compared to Hitler. I'd like to see some examples of such behavior from those who claim it happened.

A new violet america - Our President is not black - he is violet - that's what you get when you mix red white and blue -

In 2010 our Nation will give President Obama the mandate he needs to get the job done.

As for socialism - it's much more humane than capitalism - 100% of those who oppose socialism don't know what it means.

World society is controlled by the capitalistic philosophy which in turns depends on unbridled consumption which in turn is destroying life on our planet.

Mankinds ego won't allow for the fact that humans are inferior to all other forms of life on earth. WE think - therefore we imagine - and what we imagine is that we know what we are thinking.

Amazing how supposedly "patriotic" conseratives can't accept that the American democratic process resulted in Obama being elected our President. They are patriotic when they like our leader, but not if they don't. This is patriotism? Remember the conservative rallying cry, "love it or leave it", which I quess doesn't apply when they don't like the President.

barnie frank is great. republicans senators are so hungry for power. they have "united" to try to vote out a very distinguished latino lady as a suprime court judge. yet back in bush day bush had a liar like ganzalus. decency and itegrity should be the main focus. there are great republicans in the past like lincoln but where are they now. you have sanford, palin-who-we-should-not-waste-our-breath-with, mccain (even he is a truth twister now), cheney, bush etc... long list.
people are bashing pelosi, but compare to palin, not only she is educated and she makes sense. i see she is bashed just because she is the speaker of the House. no wonder ever clearly mentioned what she has done so wrong.

To people who use words like "elitist" please understand that the educated people you debate with know that you receive your information from television or some form of conservative media. You and the other people who use this word, do not know what it means.

Think for yourself. That is the problem with all these LaRouche PAC people is that they have opted not to think for themselves. And the irony in this group making comparisons to Hitler - is that these followers are very much like the Hitler youth. Buying into hysteria, choosing not to think critically for themselves, marching per orders with symbology of the group, and preaching exactly what they are told.

These kinds of things are always ironic. Aren't they?

FOX continues to try to give air time & credibility to the lies of birthers, tea baggers, racists & neo-nazis. More people should just change the channel to CNN or turn them & their advertisers off altogether.
FOX will tell the truth when it hits their pocket book to lie.

The majority of people are just watching & listening & saying nothing. That does not mean they will do nothing.

The average person knows what the difference is between right & wrong. Between the truth & lies.

Eventually people will come to realize that:

Nature is much more important than mankind.

Socialism is much better than capitalism.

President Obama is the best President we've ever had.

The constitution was written in part by racists, bigots, despots & white supremacists - ancestors of Sara Failin' & Roach Limberger .

For a long time afterwords blacks were not equal to whites and women were not equal to men.

and that's that - it is what it is

For those people who keep repeating Sarah Palin's comment about "Death Panel" in Obama's health care reform bill which refers to the voluntary end of life consultation, that was actually introduced by a Republican Senator during Obama's bipartisan attempt for creating the reform bill.

What irony to have a Republican introduce something into the bill to have another Republican twist it, convoluted it, criticize it and blame the whole thing to the Democrats.

Last night's Daily Show covers this incident. I put a link for those of you who continue to claim that no one ever compared Bush to nazis(see the 0:30 second mark in the video). Also because Stewart rightly praises Frank's response.
Making the nazi comparison, no matter who is making it, unless one is actually discussing genocide, is completely uncalled for. To be so ignorant as to communicate that comparison to a Jew proves nothing but that your parents did an extremely poor job in raising you.
One more thing, really addressed to everyone. If the people you disagree with, regardless of the subject, engage in an activity that is tasteless, ignorant, or beyond common norms, that is one more reason to be glad you are not one of them. It is not an invitation for you and your peers to act in the same ways with the added cover of pointing to others having done it first. It is also not an indication that everyone who disagrees with you acts with the same disregard for mature dialogue.

Wow... cmhbph1. Which planet are you from? Having a public OPTION for health care is not the same as government take over or giving up liberty of any kind. It is having a baseline for other private companies to measure up to.

Having a permanent health care solution is NOT "temporary safety". Your analogy using Ben Franklin's quote is one of the worst I have heard and makes absolutely no sense at all.

On the other hand, when you would give up the right to privacy by allowing the government to wiretap and listen in on your conservation whenever they feel like it. Or that you allow the government to detain and/or torture anyone whom they deem to be a terrorist without any proofs of any kind for an indefinite period of time just so that you can feel safe from outside attack would be much more appropriate analogy to Ben Franklin's quote that you had provided.

Capitalism is undemocratic. You are as free as the size of the balance in your bank account.

Socialism is democratic - it is based on the principals that all humans are created equal - that there should be justice freedom and equality for ALL.

What we need is democratic socialism - where society works as a whole for the benefit of the whole.

Nature must be preserved, conserved, restored, replenished and embellished.

The destruction of nature is what leads to rationing - and even when there is enough food produced by nature to feed the planet - it is hoarded by the rich to maintain power over the general populace.

To survive mankind must subordinate to nature and evolve new economic & social systems that are centric to nature. Then truly mankind can be proud & pure, free, happy and healthy. Clean air, water - plants & animals - peace and quiet. No endangered species list - you don't need a phd to grow plants and raise animals. Who said that an agricultural society was inferior to what we have today? The industrial capitalists who to this very day have amassed the natural wealth of a once healthy planet - unfairly distributing the fruits of ordinary laborers - without fair payback -

Do we need to do any more than sustain, replenish & harvest the fruits of nature to be happy & healthy?

Politics should not exist.

This is republican politics at the height of hypocrisy: Right wing nutjobs compare Obama to Hitler and equate reform with "death panels." Then, Barney calls them crazy to their face. So republicans retort that dems "out of touch with constituents."

Republicans mouth the words, "We want reform," but say NO to every proposal that comes along. One of my closest friends is a conservative, but she refuses to call herself "republican." She says the crazies are taking over her party and she's done.

It's been exactly a year since my prediction: republicans are going to be out of power for at least a generation. In those 365 days, republicans have done NOTHING to court the independents and conservative democrats they need to win elections. In fact, the party has been doing everything in its power to cater to no one but the crazies on the extreme right. Ever thus?

coralights, I think you are right. Kings, dictators and warlords are the political and social equivalent of the Capitalism. After all, why shouldn't someone with more power be able to dictate and control someone that has less power? Just let the one with more power to "naturally" rise to the top.

Clearly, I believe that neither extreme Capitalism nor extreme Socialism should be the approach to all things in all situation which seems to be what the current political environment is doing right now. That fact is the solution to most real life problems are somewhere in between. Whenever the government lacks sufficient regulation, there seems to be a lot of greed and corruption; whereas, whenever a process is too slow and cumbersome to get done, it has too much regulation.

The health insurance companies makes billions each year as pure profits. Each dollar they made is equivalent to a dollar of government wasted inefficiency. So with the amount of money these companies are raking in each year, the government has to be really inefficiency just to match that.

On top of that, when the government program is running inefficiently, the people can also vote to have the system change or improve. But when a company is running inefficiently and denying your coverage, who do you complain to get improvement and change?

Remember, a company's primary objective is to make money; not your health. For them to maximize their profits is to deny you as much health care as possible.

Actually, the health care insurance companies are not even the real boogeyman here even though they seem to be taking most of the heat. I believe the real boogeyman behind the ridiculous escalation of health care cost is the pharmaceutical companies. Companies such as Pfizer, Merck and the likes. They charge ridiculously high prices for the drugs and file patents on top of existing patents to continue extending their protection period to prevent others for making a cheaper alternative of the drugs that they have.

Just look at their revenues they made and the gross margin and operating margin they have, it is ridiculously high. For Pfizer, they have over $46B in revenue with over 86% gross margin and close to 37% operating margin. I am trying to single out Pfizer because most of these pharmaceutical companies all have really, really high profit margins.

Besides health care insurance, we really need to control the drug cost as well which to me seem to be a much bigger problem.

Finally. It's about time that someone set the record straight with these individuals. Nazi'z and socialism and carrying guns around school yards and public places where innocent people are as an intimidation tactic demonstrate that what is left of the Republic party are the paranoid and those suffering from severe mental health issues. Beck and Rush and Boehner and Grassly, et al, seem to feeding off these individuals who tragically are not well. There is something really wrong with that and it's about time that someone spoke up. I feel bad that it was necessary to call this woman out in public, but she needs phsychological help and the Republican Party needs to stop feeding the fears of these paranoids. It went on for 8 years. Enough is enough.

It is interesting to observe the zombie hypnotized spill repeat their programming. It is useless to note that the woman was representing a far-left larouche, the zombies continue to drone, drone their programming, talking, talking, their minds completely brainwashed.

It is as useless as trying to stop the ocean waves from pounding, pounding, pounding the beach. All you can do is watch with amusement.

On this thread we've seen how socialists are backing this obama health care agenda.

We've seen the constant misapprehension that the lady represents the right wing.

Just like Night of the Living Dead, the zombies just keep coming.

Now there is nothing wrong with these people, they are just regular people, under the influence of powerful mind control. It is not only Obama using hypnosis. The interested reader can view a free documentary, "Century of the Self" delviing into this fascinating post Freudian topic. A link to the 4 part series is here:

It blows the mind, that with today with the miracle of the internet, of instant information, when people can easily read about the horrific failures of socialism, communism, fascism, etc, yet they continue on like blind zombie-bots oblivious to the information staring them in the face!

It's true there is a sucker born every minute. Young minds are still easy prey for socialism the wonders of the internet notwithstanding.

There is a valid point that obama is taking steps similar to fascism including government control of industries.

What these innocent idealistic minds do not understand is that the government will not take care of them. That is what the Bill of Rights is about.

The zombies keep coming, coming, coming. This human nature, innocent idealistic, programmed by television and the media.

You can't blame them, they are just human, too bad they cannot learn from the history lessons of the past, especially when it is within such easy reach.

Yes, a sucker is born every minute, and the sooner that the older ones (who have gotten wise) receive end of life counseling, the better.

They have the votes, no one can stop it, and they know it. The media events are just to sell more newspapers. Even if some democrats lose their seats because of their vote, they will just receive some juicy appointment by the Obama administration for falling on the sword. The only bright spot being that when the president is shown to be ineligible ,everything he signed will be null and void.
